Standing room only for Firelight Lantern Festival

Wind and cold changed the venue, but the magic of the Firelight Lantern Festival shone brightly Saturday as creative volunteers with the “Department of Illumination” set up inside the Picton Town Hall and welcomed a full-house bursting at the seams.
A series of 20 community lantern-making workshops was held throughout the County prior to the festival. During March Break week, many workshops were held at the County’s public libraries and attracted all ages of participants.
Co-organizers Susanne Larner and Krista Dalby planned the event for Benson Park in Picton and hoped the paper lanterns would be lit and paraded to Delhi Park where singing, a shadow puppetry performance and live music would follow. Instead, they filled the Town Hall for the festivities and held a shorter parade around the Benson Park block.

Thanks for those photos, Phil, they’re great!
Ha ha, I would LOVE the key to Picton, thanks! It was an amazing night, thank you to everyone who came out and to the many volunteers and supporters.
I really loved seeing all the kids with their beautiful handmade lanterns and so many amazing artistic grown-ups, too. Krista and Susanne should be given the key to Picton!
Thanks to Milé and Krista of Small Pond Arts and their team of volunteers for putting on such a unique festival in Picton. Our photography outing group joined in on the fun as it provided some very challenging lighting situations and lessons on covering a big-crowd event! http://www.philnorton.net/lanternfest
Amazing photos from the festival are flooding in now on Facebook (and other social media things). Stay tuned for a blog post very soon.
FOR THE GLORY OF PICTON!!
