A donation from the Picton Rotary Club toward a CT scanner for the new hospital had triple the impact thanks to a matching initiative with the Paul B. Helliwell Foundation.
The $5,000 gift from Rotarians was made in support of the Prince Edward County Memorial Hospital Foundation’s CT Scanner campaign, which concluded last week. As part of the campaign’s limited-time matching initiative with the Paul B. Helliwell Foundation, the donation was tripled — turning the Rotary’s $5,000 gift into $15,000. Full results of the campaign are to be shared with the community soon.
The Rotarians have been steadfast supporters of the County’s hospital for more than 23 years raising $219,449 to date.
“As president of the Rotary Club of Picton, I could not be happier or prouder of all that our Picton Rotarians champion, appreciate and support for this fabulous new state-of-the-art hospital right in our beautiful and precious PEC,” said Nancy Griffin.
A CT scanner allows doctors to see inside the body using a combination of X-rays and computer images to create pictures of organs, bones, and other tissues. (Its full cost is to be known when a contractor is named.)
Currently patients need to travel to other facilities to receive a CT scan – more than 2,150 times annually.
“This latest donation makes me proud to be a Rotarian. It is another example of how the Rotary Club of Picton lives its motto — Service Above Self,” said Shannon Coull, Executive Director of the PECMH Foundation. “The Club’s continued support helps us bring modern, essential medical equipment like the CT Scanner to our community, ensuring care can be received, close to home.”
PECMH Foundation’s Back the Build campaign is raising $30M to help build and equip a new hospital to serve residents and visitors in Prince Edward County. For more information and to lend your support, visit www.pecmhf.ca/back-the-build
