Prince Edward County council provided its support to the Murray Canal District Organization to request Parks Canada and other federal officials suspend the plan for a replacement single lane swing bridge.
Located at the busy Trenton area entrance to the County, council wants to see existing funds preserved and an investigation into how to produce required additional funding necessary to for a bridge that will better meet requirements – identified through a public consulation process.
In 2008, contractors replaced the bridge deck and deteriorated portions of the steel structure, repainted and restored abutments.
The topic is to be on the table at Quinte West council April 23.
