Sweet thanks to frontline workers from County sugarshacks

Maple in The County organizers gifted close to 100 bottles of Prince Edward County maple syrup to staff at Picton Sobey’s Tuesday. Walts Sugar Shack also brought all the employees at Pierson’s Foodland in Wellington a bottle of maple syrup.

The 19th annual festival was one of the first major events to be cancelled in the County – a decision made by 13 local sugarshacks amid COVID-19 pandemic concerns.

“Picton Sobey’s has been a wonderful sponsor of the Maple in The County festival for several years,” says Michelle Nyman, from Nyman Farms. “We all wanted to do something special for their front line staff to show our appreciation for the work they’ve continued to do while COVID-19 continues to keep folks at home.”

Though the festival was cancelled, the sap continued to flow and local producers have syrup and maple items available for sale with contactless pick-up. Maple lovers should contact sugar bushes directly to make arrangements.

Plans are to have next year’s Maple in The County festival March 27-28, 2021.
