A banner year of support from the annual Bake Off Challenge at the Picton Fair and Smiles Cookie campaign from Tim Hortons made a sweet week for support of the Prince Edward County Memorial Hospital Foundation – topped off which CHEERS! from the Picton Rotary Club’s contribution from this year’s Wine Championships.
The 9th annual Bake Off Challenge saw 25 entries of cakes and pies that, when auctioned, raised $2,200 for equipment purchases at Prince Edward County Memorial Hospital. Hot on its heels, the annual Smile Cookie campaign raised $3,524.
Chairperson Susie Harrington was pleased with the overall result and hopes to build momentum as the Bake Off celebrates its 10th year in 2017. Susie and the Agricultural Society have set a goal to bring their cumulative giving total to the Hospital Foundation to $10,000 in their 10th year. They are within $1,000 of reaching their goal and 2017’s event should put them over the top.
Paul Massey, owner of the Picton and Wellington Tim Hortons locations presented the Foundation Board directors with $3,524 proceeds from the week-long cookie promotion. Again this year, Massey credits a generous County community for the success of the Smile Cookie campaign.
And CHEERS! to the Prince Edward County Memorial Hospital Foundation, from the Rotary Club of Picton. Maurice Carlier, Rotary’s Treasurer, handed over funds raised at this summer’s Wine Passport to Canada event, to Penny Rolinski, executive director of the hospital foundation. The tasting event was hosted by Rotary and the Foundation at the Crystal Palace. Part of the proceeds raised stayed with the Rotary Club to be used for projects related to literacy in Prince Edward County.
