Three-phase detours/restrictions for Picton Main reconstruction have begun

On Tuesday, May 7, construction will begin on the underground services along Picton Main Street from McFarland Drive to Spencer Street. This work is scheduled to be completed by Friday, May 24.

To facilitate this work, temporary lane reductions along with a road closure will be implemented.

During the closure / lane reduction, local traffic access to properties within the construction area will be maintained, as well as emergency vehicle access.

The work between McFarland Drive and Spencer Street is planned to be carried out in three phases over the three-week period as follows:

The current detour route, which uses Johnson Street, Macsteven Drive, and McFarland Drive, will continue along with a lane reduction on Picton Main Street between McFarland Drive and Spencer Street.

Phase 1

Phase 2

Phase 3

The intersection of Picton Main Street and McFarland Drive will be closed during the day.
The current detour route, which uses Johnson Street, MacSteven Drive and McFarland Drive, will not be used during the contractor’s working day but will be re-opened in the evening.

Picton Main Street will be temporarily opened to through traffic between Johnson Street and McFarland Drive during the contractor’s working day.

This phase of the work is expected to be completed between May 21 and May 24.

Once Phase 3 has been completed the existing detour route that uses Johnson Street, MacSteven Drive and McFarland Drive will be reinstated to permit completion of sidewalks, curbs and asphalt paving of Picton Main Street south of McFarland Drive.

Once paving south of McFarland Drive has been completed the Johnson-Macsteven-McFarland detour will be discontinued.

All lane closures during Phases 1, 2 and 3 will be re-opened at the end of the working day.
