Traffic cameras and closed circuit television monitoring systems are will be installed at the Glenora Ferry terminals.
Mayor Robert Quiaff was notified the traffic cameras will be installed at the roads approaching the two dock terminals, at Glenora and Adolphustown. The MTO intends to deliver notices to property owners in and around the area of the cameras within the next few weeks.
The operations monitoring CCTV system is being installed to monitor line-ups, operation activities at the dock terminals, ferry boats and ferry loading ramps.
The system is to provide real-time camera videos for the ferry supervisor, ferry captain and Ottawa Traffic Operation Centre (OTOC) to enhance coordination of the ferry service schedule. Images of the new traffic cameras will be posted on the MTO 511 Traveller Information Services website to provide information to the public.
IBI Group has been retained by MTO as the contract administrator. Construction is planned to begin in the spring and completed by October 2016. Short-term, single lane closures will be required for the installation of the wood and concrete poles. Signs will provide motorists with advanced notice of the upcoming lane closures.
Key components of construction include:
New concrete and wood poles at both dock terminals along Highway 33.
Installing controller cabinets, communication equipment and CCTV cameras at the new poles, existing light poles, ferry office building and ferries.
Installing new hydro power connections to the new poles.
Connecting equipment to existing power supplies at lamp poles.
Installing IP video management system at the ferry office and ferries.
