Transportation minister meets Mayor to discuss County roads

Ontario’s Minister of Transportation admitted County Road 49 is as bad as Prince Edward County Mayor Robert Quaiff has been saying.
Steven Del Duca drove the 2016 Worst Road in Ontario Thursday morning, heading for a visit at Shire Hall with Quaiff.
The two met for just over an hour to discuss much needed repairs to 49 and the County’s proposal to download a portion of Highway 33 from Cold Storage Road to Home Hardware to ease the development process for as many as 350 units in a subdivision to be built over the next seven to 10 years on the Jenkins Farm in the area behind Stormy’s Automotive.
Staff are preparing a report for council on a technical review of the design, application and process for County Road 49 that could be done in partnership with the Ministry and the Lehigh Cement Company (formerly Essroc). Hwy 49 was transferred to the County in 1998. The concrete road is more than 50 years old.

I see they threw Smith out of the legislature today
A lot of people think the conservatives are OK but they cost us as much or more then the Liberals have.It was just hid a little better
The Conservatives dumped the road on us with enough money to maintain it for 2 years. And knowing full well it was at the end of it’s life span. If you don’t believe me then ask Smith. Then wait for the stutter step!
It’s not a highway, It’s a County Road. Ask our MPP how that happened. Lol
Given the amount of traffic it carries in the summer, Highway 49 should be returned to the province. It should have never been downloaded to the municipality.
Did he see that big cement boulder that some how our Mayor was able to find? Never seen such debris on Cty. 49. If it works great, cause we sure can’t afford to replace this road. Optics!
