Break-ins among calls to OPP

Prince Edward OPP responded to 35 calls for service over the first few days of the new year – including reports of break-ins.

On Thursday, Jan. 2, officers investigated a theft from a job site on McFaul Road in Hillier that occurred between Dec. 27 and 31. A number of tools, valued at $15,000, were reported stolen, including:

Investigators are actively looking for information that may lead to a suspect or suspect(s) in this case.

On Saturday, Jan. 4 just after 3:10 p.m. officers responded to a report of a break, enter and theft at a residence on County Road 1 in Hallowell Ward. A number of personal belongings and electronics were taken including a 12-inch Apple Ipad.

Investigators seek information that may lead to a suspect or suspect(s) in these cases. Anyone with information is requested to call the OPP at 1-888-310-1122. Prince Edward OPP investigated a report of a break and enter to a business in Picton in the early morning hours of new year’s day.

“With the assistance of local residents and their investigative skills the officers identified the suspect and he was arrested and charged,” said Const. Aaron Miller, media relations officer.

The 22-year-old Picton man was charged with break and enter a place- with intent to commit indictable offence contrary to section 348(1)(a) of the Criminal Code. He was released on an undertaking and is scheduled to appear Feb. 19, 2019 at the Ontario Court of Justice in Picton.

During a traffic stop Friday, Jan. 3 just after 11:15 p.m. on Union Street in Picton, a 42-year-old Timmins man was charged with operation while prohibited contrary to section 320.18(1)(a) of the Criminal Code.
He was released on an appearance notice and is scheduled to attend the Ontario Court of Justice in Picton on Jan. 29, 2020.
