Two Drama League Festival awards for PEC Community Theatre

Moon-Over-Buffalo-cast-600EODL-Awards-003The Prince Edward Community Theatre troupe has just come home with two of four acting awards presented at this year’s Eastern Ontario Drama League Festival.

PECT was among theatre companies from Belleville, Cornwall, Lindsay, Northumberland, Peterborough, Kingston, Ottawa and Merrickville in the competition adjudicated by Dennis Johnson, an educator and director with 25 years experience as an adjudicator.

Crystal Mayer won the Ron Hazelgrove Award for Best Cameo Performance and Mark Daniher won the Beaulne Memorial Trophy for Best Actor in a Major Role.

“We’re pretty proud of our ‘Moon Over Buffalo’ team,” said Jennifer Goodman. “The show was very successful and we had a ball doing it.  Thanks to our director Lynn Fennell for putting this show and crew together. We’re so excited that in our second year of competing we have received an award at each competition.”

Moon Over Buffalo was the show that brought Carol Burnett back to Broadway.
It’s 1953 and has-been Broadway stars George and Charlotte Hay are trying to squeak out a living doing repertory theatre in Buffalo, New York. On the playbill are Private Lives by Noel Coward and the “one nostril” version of  Cyrano de Bergerac, the only problem is that they’re broke. Just when things are looking their worst for George and Charlotte, they catch wind that Frank Capra, mister “Hollywood” himself, is flying down to catch one of their matinees. This could be the big break they were waiting for! However, backstage antics, mistaken identities and marital discord threaten to get in their way of claiming Hollywood fame once again.

Director Lynn Fennell assembled a stellar cast featuring:
Mark Daniher as George Hay company director, lead actor & Broadway superstar.
Jennifer Goodman as Charlotte Hay, the greatest stage actress of a generation.
Georgia Papanicolaou as Roz Hay their beautiful and talented daughter.
Kevin McGall as Paul Singer the company manager.
Bill McMahon as Richard Maynard lawyer & trusted advisor.
Jennifer Warr as Ethel, Charlottes mother and company seamstress.
Hugh Cameron as Howard the TV weatherman.
Crystal Mayer as Eileen the beautiful young company actress.

Next up, PECT is hard at work with “Dial M for Murder” and their May One-Acts “A Little Something for the Ducks” and “A Scent of Honey Suckle”.   Visit here for more: http://pecommtheatre.ca/
