Virtual schooling created in response to the COVID-19 pandemic, will end in June.
The Hastings District Board of Education noted the ongoing, annual decline in the number of K-12 students making the program financially unfeasible to continue the ongoing, yet limited public demand.
When the program started in 2020-2021, there were 1502 elementary and 805 secondary students from K-12 enrolled. A K-10 structure in 2021-2022, served 368 elementary and 117 secondary students. A K-8 structure in 2022-2023 serves 82 students, a decrease from the projected 113 students.
Specialized funding for virtual school learning was stopped by the Ministry of Education for the 2021-2022 school year.
Students will be automatically returned to their home schools for the next school year.
