Volunteers leading positive change in PEC

Prince Edward County celebrates its rich history of  community involvement during National Volunteer Week April 15-21. With 12.5 million people volunteering their time across the nation, volunteers are leading positive change in the community, health care, sports and recreation, heritage and arts, environmental protection and advocacy, disaster relief, international development, and volunteer firefighting!
The work of volunteers is essential to maintaining resilient communities at home and around the world.

And a heart-felt thanks from the Picton BIA

As volunteer week comes to a close across the Province, The Picton BIA extends a hearty congratulations and sincere thanks to the many volunteers who contribute through volunteerism, especially, three members of the BIA who will be recognized by the Government of Ontario early next month.  They are:
Angela Strachan, AV Frame & Photo
Frank Wright, Williamson & Co.
and Councillor Bev Campbell.
As many of you are already aware, Angela is the former Chair of the Picton BIA.  She presently volunteers on both the Streetscape Enhancement Committee and the Advocacy Committee of the BIA and is an active supporter of countless charitable and not for profit organizations in the community, including the Prince Edward Birding Festival.

When the Picton Santa Claus Parade was near death’s door, Frank Wright assembled his team from the Rotary Club of Picton, and together with administrative support from the BIA, led the charge to save the parade.  Over the past five years, Frank has established a steering committee comprised of representatives from each of the fraternal organizations in the region, the Picton BIA, the Picton Rec Committee, the business community, and community volunteers, who together have managed to sustain this dynamic, evolving, and important community tradition.

Despite her harried schedule and the many demands placed upon her as a member of municipal council, Councillor Bev Campbell continues to lend her leadership and skills to countless community initiatives, both inside the Picton BIA and in the community.  Whenever and however Bev is able, she is always the first to lend her experience and wisdom to building a strong downtown (sitting on numerous BIA committees including the Membership Committee, and Canada Day Steering Committee). Bev also lends her leadership to annual women’s day celebrations in the region, just one of many other activities with which she is involved in building a vibrant, engaged community.

Thank you all for your time, wisdom, expertise, and leadership.  On behalf of our business community, we salute you!
