Volunteers pick, bag and load potatoes for food banks

Thirteen industrious Bioniche employees volunteered to pick, bag and load 4,500 pounds of beautiful potatoes for the Gleaners Food Bank for distribution to agencies throughout the region including the two food banks in the county. Laundry Farms welcomed the group to their fields and donated the potatoes. The event was an initiative for Community Harvest Ontario, a new program set up by the Ontario Association of Food Banks to dramatically increase the amount of fresh, healthy, local food acquired and distributed by food banks across the province. 375,000 Ontarians turn to food banks every month; 40 per cent of those served by food banks are children.
