Residents and staff at the Wellings of Picton 55-plus community are celebrating a cumulative giving tally of $50,000 raised for Prince Edward County Memorial Hospital (PECMH) over the past eight years.

“This is an incredible milestone. It represents 32 contributions, dozens of caring donors, and thousands of lives touched at our County hospital,” said Shannon Coull, executive director of the PECMH Foundation. “These gifts from Wellings help support our hospital’s exceptional care champions by providing them with the tools, equipment, and space they need to provide high-quality care for patients and their families. With their support, we can also invest in the resources needed to Back the Build for our new hospital and meet the growing needs of the community we serve.”

Most recently, Wellings hosted their second annual car wash and barbecue. The funds raised through this event propelled them to the Founder level on PECMHF’s donor wall for cumulative gifts of $50,000+.

The partnership between PECMHF and Wellings started when former general manager Rachel Henry approached the foundation team, expressing interest in sponsoring upcoming events. The foundation launched a monthly lunch and learn series called Live Well in the County.

The Wellings continued to help PECMHF reach its fundraising targets for priority medical equipment by becoming a corporate sponsor of the Teeing Up Fore Health Care golf classic. In addition to their sponsorship, Wellings provided volunteers to help with hole activities and ensured enough prizes to go around.

“We recognize that local, accessible health care is critical to a vibrant, thriving community, and we are pleased to be able to support the hospital and the hospital foundation,” said Kevin Pidgeon, chief executive officer of Nautical Lands Group, which owns Wellings. “We are incredibly grateful to our employees and members at Wellings of Picton for their ongoing commitment to raising funds and keeping community wellness a top priority.”

Over the past five years, the people who live at Wellings have also hosted the Making Spirits Bright holiday bazaar, an indoor market in the atrium, which also helps to usher in the holiday season.

“An over the years, some of PECMHF’s long-time donors have moved to Wellings, so it is always fun to see so many of our beloved supporters in one place when we visit, and we meet new friends all the time,” added Coull. “We are proud of our partnership with the Wellings.”

A naming opportunity in the new hospital is also being explored.

“We understand the significance of contributing to the growth and well-being of the place we call home,” said Tracey Cronkright, general manager of Wellings of Picton. “Our commitment to our community and our local hospital goes beyond business, as we believe in nurturing a strong sense of community and giving back to those who have supported us.”
