Winter restrictions for Millennium Trail; reduced loads on roads
Administrator | Jan 31, 2021 | Comments 0
Millennium Trail users are advised that all-terrain vehicles (ATVs) and dirt bikes are not permitted on the trail in winter months as motorized use is restricted to snowmobiles, farm tractors and vehicles caring for farm animals.
Snowmobilers are reminded to limit their speed to 20 kilometres per hour within any town, village or hamlet, 10 kilometres per hour within designated significant wetlands, and 50 kilometres per hour elsewhere.
The trail is not maintained for pedestrian use in the winter, and icy conditions exist on some sections of the trail. It is open for snowmobiling, snowshoeing, cross-country skiing, fat tire biking and walking.
Reduced load restrictions are in place on County roads as of Feb. 1 – loads are restricted to five tonnes per axle.
This restriction does not apply to those who haul potable water, septage, or heating fuel for residential and institutional uses.
The County may grant commodity producers and distributors an exemption to transport perishable or market-sensitive commodities that cannot reasonably be divided during the reduced load period. For further information about the reduced load period or to request an exemption, contact the Operations Office at 613.476.2148 extension 4000.
