Woman found unconscious has died

A Sophiasburgh woman found unconscious on Saturday has died.

Prince Edward County OPP say around 5:45 p.m. Saturday, officers were called to Black Road in Sophiasburgh where a woman had been found unconscious. An all terrain vehicle was idling nearby the woman.

The subsequent investigation revealed that at approximately 5:45 p.m. the victim had left a residence on Black Road and was heading toward her home a short distance away. The victim was driving her personal ATV and was not wearing a helmet. A brief time later, the female was discovered on the roadway suffering from head injuries. The undamaged ATV was idling nearby. The exact cause for the incident is unclear at this time.

The victim was transported to Picton General Hospital and then transferred to Kingston General Hospital.

Kathryn Richards, 61, succumbed to her injuries Sunday evening.

Alcohol was not a factor.

Condolences to this woman’s family. That’s a horrible way to lose someone. Hopefully this story will at least shake a few more ATV and snowmobile users into wearing their helmets on the trails.
