Driver charged
A 48-year-old Prince Edward County resident is facing impaired driving charges following a traffic complaint.
Prince Edward OPP, on Monday, April 22 shortly before 8:30 p.m., received a traffic complaint, then an update that a vehicle had entered the ditch on County Road 2.
Officers responded to the area and located the vehicle parked on the shoulder. Subsequent investigation led to the arrest of the driver who was transported to detachment for further testing.
The driver was charged with operation while impaired – alcohol and drugs.
The driver was released from custody and is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice at a later date. They also had their licence suspended for 90 days and vehicle impounded for seven.
Traffic complaint leads to charges
A 38-year-old Prince Edward County resident is facing impaired driving offences following a traffic complaint.
On Friday, April 19 shortly after 9 p.m. Prince Edward OPP received a report of a possible impaired driver. Officers responded to a parking lot off Main Street Picton and spoke with a driver of an ATV. Following use of a screening device, the driver was arrested and transported to the detachment for further testing.
The driver was charged with operation while impaired – blood alcohol concentration (80 plus) and operation while impaired – alcohol and drugs. The driver was released from custody and is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice at a later date.
The ATV was impounded for seven days. The OPP would like to thank individuals for remaining vigilant for impaired drivers. Should you suspect someone is impaired, call 911.
Joint commercial blitz checks 25 vehicles
The OPP joined forces with the Ministry of Transportation and Kingston Police to conduct a commercial motor vehicle blitz in Prince Edward County.
On Thursday, April 18, officers and inspectors checked 25 vehicles and six were taken out of service for defects. Three had licence plates removed for serious safety defects. Officers issued 34 charges under the Highway Traffic Act.
Prince Edward OPP Detachment Commander Staff Sergeant John Hatch said the OPP remains fully committed to traffic safety. “Officers continue to make a difference in preventing serious collisions on our roadways.”
Police report weapon at school was a toy
Prince Edward County OPP reported on the social media platform X they responded to a local school today following a report of a weapon on the property.
“Individuals were located and spoken to and found to have a toy. There is no concern for public safety,” the report stated. “The OPP is aware of rumours and speculation online but can assure everyone that there was no real threat.”
Driver pronounced deceased; cruiser struck during investigation
A 71-year-old was pronounced deceased following a single vehicle incident in Picton Monday.
Prince Edward OPP continue to investigate the incident on Main, near Paul Street, April 1 shortly before 3 p.m.
Information obtained stated the 71-year-old driver was unconscious. The individual was transported to hospital where they were pronounced deceased. Preliminary information shows the individual had a medical episode prior to the collision.
While responding, a police cruiser was struck on its driver side. There were no injuries to either driver.
OPP would like to remind drivers to be aware of emergency vehicles responding to emergencies. Vehicles are directed to pull to the right when directed by emergency crews or vehicles.
Search found guns and drugs
The East Region Community Street Crime Unit has arrested and charged two people after executing a search warrant in Picton yesterday.
On March 21, the search warrant was executed on Nery Avenue with the assistance of the East Region Tactics and Rescue Unit, Emergency Response Team and Canine Unit. As a result, officers seized a firearm, a prohibited device, ammunition and a quantity of suspected cocaine.
A 34 and a 28 year-old, both from Prince Edward County, were charged with Possession of a schedule one substance for the purpose of trafficking – cocaine, Possession of a weapon for dangerous purpose, Uauthorized possession of a firearm, Careless storage of firearm, weapon, prohibited device or ammunition and Knowledge of unauthorized possession of weapon.
Both were held for a bail hearing before the Ontario Court of Justice March 22.
Scam fire inspection call
Prince Edward OPP report the public should be aware of false fire inspection phone calls.
In its ‘Friday Fraud Facts’ alerts, the OPP note receiving information recently that an individual received a phone call from someone claiming to be a fire inspector.
“The inspector advised they needed to attend and do a fire inspection of smoke alarms and other fire safety appliances,” states Const. Aaron Miller, Community Safety Officer. “In previous cases, the inspector has asked the homeowner/ business employee to provide them with photos and then there is a fraudulent fine issued, sometimes paid in crypto currency. The fraudsters may target individuals or businesses.”
Prince Edward County Fire and Rescue Fire Prevention Officer Mike Branscombe said the fire service will never ask for gift cards or cryptocurrency.
“Should we need to inspect a residence or business, we will attend with proper identification and fire service vehicles,” said Branscombe.

Driver charged
Prince Edward OPP have charged a driver with refusal as result of a single vehicle incident.
Shortly after midnight Friday, March 8 officers responded alongside Hastings Quinte EMS and Prince Edward County Fire and Rescue to an incident on Miller Road.
Officers spoke with the driver and a demand for a screening device was made. As a result, the driver was arrested. A 43-year-old from Prince Edward County was charged with Operation while impaired – alcohol and drugs; Failure or refusal to comply with demand; Dangerous operation and Operate a motor vehicle without insurance
The driver was released from custody and is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Picton on March 20. The driver also had their licence suspended for 90 days and vehicle impounded for seven days.
RIDE stop leads to multiple charges
Prince Edward OPP laid multiple charges at a RIDE program stop March 3, shortly after midnight at Highway 62 near Rossmore.
Officers spoke with a driver who entered the RIDE and as a result, administered a screening test. It was also later learned the driver had provided a false identification.
A 31-year-old from Markham was charged with Operation while impaired – alcohol and drugs; Operation while impaired – blood alcohol concentration (80 plus); Personation with intent to avoid arrest, prosecution or obstruct justice; Operation while prohibited; Obstruct peace officer; Failure or refusal to comply with demand.
The driver was released from custody and is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Picton on March 27. The driver also had their vehicle impounded.
Assault and impaired charges
Prince Edward OPP have charged an individual with assault and impaired offences.
On Feb. 22 shortly before 11 p.m. officers received a report of a dispute along County Road 1 near the detachment. Officers spoke with an individual and witnesses at scene. As a result of further investigation, a screening device was administered and the driver was arrested and transported to detachment for further testing.
A 40-year-old individual from Prince Edward County, was charged with Assault, Operation while impaired- blood alcohol concentration (80 plus) and Operation while impaired- alcohol and drugs
The individual was released from custody and is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice at a later date. They had their licence suspended for 90 days and vehicle impounded for seven.

More than $50,000 in stolen property recovered
More than $50,000 in stolen property was located earlier this month from multiple break and enters reported in Prince Edward County and surrounding areas.
On Feb. 7, members of the OPP East Region Community Street Crime Unit were involved in locating multiple pieces of stolen property in Prince Edward County. These items were from multiple break and enters in the County, Central Hastings and Lennox and Addington detachment areas.
Property included a 2008 Honda all-terrain vehicle (ATV), a 2002 Honda off-road motorcycle, two KTM 2020 off-road motorcycles, a 2014 KTM off-road motorcycle, a 2010 Yamaha ATV, 2021 Yamaha ATV, a Kubota riding lawnmower, chainsaws, generators and other power tools.
As a result of the investigation, a 26-year-old from Belleville Ontario has been charged with two counts of theft over $5000; four counts of Break, Enter a place – commit indictable offence; two counts of Possession of property obtained by crime under $5000 and four counts of Possession of property obtained by crime over $5000.
He is currently in custody pending a bail hearing at the Ontario Court of Justice in Belleville on a further date.
More than $80,000 missing attached to fraud
Prince Edward OPP charged a 51-year-old Brighton man Feb. 13 with several fraud related counts following a lengthy fraud investigation.
An organization reported that more than $80,000, had been misappropriated.
Charges include Criminal breach of trust; Forgery – three counts; Fraud over $5000 – four counts; Fraud under $5000 – one count; Theft over $5000 – four counts and Theft under $5000 – one count.
The individual was released from custody and is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Picton on Feb. 29.
The OPP will not identify the name of the organization, as it is considered a victim.
More than $100,000 missing in fraud investigation
Prince Edward OPP have charged a Centre Hastings resident following a lengthy fraud investigation.
On Feb. 9 officers arrested and charged the person with Fraud over $5,000, Criminal breach of trust and Forgery.
Dating back to 2021, reports stated that more than $100,000 had gone missing. The 43-year-old was released from custody and is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Picton on March 6.
Charge of intoxication in public place, mischief
Prince Edward OPP have charged an individual after a police cruiser window was smashed.
On Jan. 31 shortly before 4 p.m. officers received a report that a suspicious individual was approaching children near Church Street in Picton.
Officers arrived and the individual appeared to be intoxicated in a public place. The individual was arrested. While being placed in the cruiser, the individual struck the rear window causing it to break.
A 25-year-old from Prince Edward County was charged with mischief and being intoxicated in a public place.
The individual was released from custody and is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Picton on Feb. 28.
Driver charged
Prince Edward OPP charged an individual with driving while impaired.
On Jan. 26 shortly before 10 p.m. officers were conducting a RIDE program on County Road 4. A vehicle entered the program and officers spoke with the driver. A screening device was administered and the driver was arrested and transported to detachment for further testing.
A 24-year-old from Belleville was charged with Operation while impaired- blood alcohol concentration (80 plus); Operation while impaired – alcohol and drugs; Fail to comply with probation order; Unauthorized possession of weapon.
The driver was released from custody and is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Picton on Feb. 14.
The driver had their licence suspended for 90 days and vehicle impounded for seven.
Two face gun, drug and stolen property charges
Two Consecon residents face gun and drug charges after police executed a search warrant at a Salem Road residence Thursday, Jan. 25.
Members of the OPP’s East Region Community Street Crime Unit charged the two in a joint operation including the Prince Edward County, Lennox & Addington County, Quinte West, Frontenac, and Madoc Community Street Crime Unit along with the assistance of the Tactical Response Unit (TRU).
Police seized four firearms, assorted ammunition, 66 grams of suspected cocaine, 10 grams of suspected methamphetamine, $840 in Canadian currency, two scales, two stolen snowmobile, and a stolen dirt bike.
As a result of the investigation, OPP has charged one 26-year-old with unauthorized possession of a firearm – four counts; Careless storage of a firearm, weapon, prohibited device or ammunition – four counts; Possession of a schedule I substance for the purpose of trafficking – cocaine; Possession of a schedule I substance for the purpose of trafficking – methamphetamine; Possession property obtained by crime under $5,000 – two counts; Possession of proceeds of property obtained by crime under $5000.
A 47-year-old was charged with unauthorized possession of a firearm; Careless storage of a firearm, weapon, prohibited device o r ammunition; Possession of a schedule I substance for the purpose of trafficking – cocaine; Possession of a schedule I substance for the purpose of trafficking – methamphetamine; Possession of proceeds of property obtained by crime under $5000
The accused were released from custody and are scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in Prince Edward County on Feb. 28th.
Driver charged
Prince Edward OPP charged an individual with impaired driving Jan. 14 around 8 p.m. after officers received a request for assistance from Hastings Quinte Paramedic Service on County Road 35.
Officers arrived on scene and spoke with a driver. The driver was subsequently arrested and transported to detachment for further testing.
The 38-year-old from Napanee was charged with Operation while impaired – alcohol and drugs and Operation while impaired- blood alcohol concentration (80 plus).
The driver was released from custody and is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Picton on Jan. 31. The driver had their licence suspended for 90 days and vehicle impounded for seven.
RIDE check leads to impaired driving charge
Prince Edward OPP charged a 42-year-old Prince Edward County resident following a check at a RIDE (Reduce Impaired Driving Everywhere) program.
On Jan. 9, shortly before midnight, officers were conducting a RIDE program on Main Street Picton when a vehicle entered the program. Officers spoke with the driver and as a result, a screening device was administered. The driver was arrested and transported to detachment for further testing. The driver was charged with operation while impaired – alcohol and drugs.
The driver was released on an undertaking and is to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice Feb. 7, 2024. They also had their drivers licence suspended for three days. The vehicle was not impounded.
