100+ Women Who Care Quinte presented $10,200 to Camp Trillium in support of camping experiences for families fighting cancer.
Members from the Quinte-based organization, and two mothers of children who attended the camp, presented Charlie Benson, a member of the camp’s fundraising committee, with the donation Friday, at the Dressing Room, in Rossmore.
The funds will go toward maintenance of the buildings at the camp on OuR Island, formerly Garrett’s Island, on West Lake near Wellington.
The camp offers year-round recreational fun to bring children with cancer, and their families, together with programs tailored for all abilities.
The Camp Trillium Odd Fellow & Rebekah (OuR) Island has been operating on the 60-acre property since 1989. It has four cabins in a bunk house to accommodate 30 people in each. There are also many smaller outdoor accommodations called Pods, where staff and teens can become more in touch with their natural surroundings.
100+ Women Who Care has donated almost $200,000 to local charities in the Quinte region since it was formed several years ago. Members meet quarterly and donate $100 each toward the chosen non-profit, or charitable organization.
