Boys of Summer champions in Watertown

Prince Edward County boys of summer beat the heat and were victorious as champions of the 29th annual Willie Putnam Memorial Baseball Tournament in Watertown last weekend.
The event, named in honor of a former athlete who was killed in 1983, features 40 primarily Little League aged teams, including some 10-and-under brackets, from mainly Northern New York and eight from Southern Ontario.
There are 10 brackets each with four teams according to ability. Within brackets, round-robin format means each team plays three games. The team brought home the first place trophy for their bracket of four teams which included a team from Quinte West.
The County’s 11 and under champions include: Walker DeRoche, Connor Cruickshank, Luke Norton, Hunter Van Vlack, Chase Lavender, Braedan Kelly, Parker Harrison, Cole Lavender, Mason Poulain, Owen Norton, Jake Doxtator.
Most Valuable Players awards went to Braedan Kelly, Mason Poulain and Jake Doxtator.
