Prince Edward County has sold five lots in the Picton Industrial Park to Solar Science Inc., a Canadian-based designer and manufacturer of photovoltaic modules which plans to build a fabrication facility this spring. About 30 new jobs are expected.
“Solar Science Inc. is introducing the latest in technology and economic growth potential to Prince Edward County” said Economic Development Officer, Dan Taylor. “It can provide a catalyst for new opportunities and new businesses to start up.”
The new section of the Picton Industrial Park was completed in 2010 with a total of 17 fully serviced lots, making Prince Edward County open for new business development. Hydro One is currently constructing a 30,000 square foot LEED certified facility in the northwest corner of the park, which is expected to be complete in 2011.
The construction of the Solar Science Inc. facility, adjacent to the Hydro One facility, will start the new section of the Picton Industrial Park on a green foot.
“In 2010, Council identified the ‘green economy’ business sector as a potential growth opportunity and allocated resources to business attraction with the hope for just such an investor,” said Mayor Peter Mertens. “I offer a warm welcome to Solar Science Inc. along with our support and best wishes for its success. I also want to thank Council for its vision and endorsement of this project, and our Economic Development staff for their efforts to help secure the deal.”
There are currently eight lots available for development in the new phase of the Picton Industrial Park and one lot on McFarland Drive in the established section.
