With perfect weather on their side, 202 cyclists raised more than $158,000 in the largest MS Bike Ride ever in Prince Edward County.

“It was an incredible day for us,” said Amanda Snow, co-ordinator. “The funds are still coming in and at this point we are already over $158,000 for Multiple Sclerosis.”

The Johnson MS Bike is the largest cycling series in North America. Here the 202 cyclists rode 40km or 75km through picturesque Prince Edward County on July 5.

Individuals and teams, made up of friends, family and coworkers, raised funds to support groundbreaking, Canadian-led research into the cause, treatment and cure of this unpredictable disease as well as programs and services for those affected by the disease.

Multiple Sclerosis is a chronic, often disabling disease of the brain and spinal cord that affects 100,000 Canadians – the highest rate of MS in the world. It is one of the most common neurological disease affecting young adults in Canada. Most people with MS are diagnosed between the ages of 15 and 40, and the unpredictable effects of MS last for the rest of their lives.

With four more events scheduled this summer – Grand Bend to London (July 25-26), Ottawa to Cornwall (Aug. 8-9), Niagara (Aug. 23) and Toronto (Sept. 20) – an estimated $2.6 million in pledges is set to be raised in Ontario in 2015. More than 10,000 cyclists are expected to participate in the 25 events this year.

There were a great deal of empty water bottles on the side of County Rd. 5 after the ride. Do hope the riders were not responsible for this. Our roads are extremely littered upon this year………….
