Thank you Dennis!!! I think I recall the cuts started back in the late 90’s and early 00’s with closures. So essentially it’s been more than just this government, but also previous ones.
What needs to be remembered at times like this is the “pre – pandemic period.” Shortly after being elected, Ontario cut funding for mental health by more than 50% – just as they cut funding to public health departments and to LTC homes. For example – in 2019 only 9 out of 626 LTC home were inspected! Now the province is bragging about hiring 269 new inspectors for the LTC homes – making it sound like they are doing something wonderful – when in fact they are closing the barn door after the horses have bolted. Don’t protect such politics and people – hold them accountable for the damage they did.
Let’s be thankful that our current government is increasing the funding !
There’s not a lot of specifics in this article considering the current social issues surrounding addictions, mental health which inherently evolve to homelessness for so many in some cases. I would like to see some specific examples as to what infrastructure will be upgraded and how that will assist front line workers, and the client’s needs. What exactly is the plan? People need help NOW.
I haven’t forgotten about the cuts to autism funding, Todd. Funding when it is convenient for you? Right, there must be an election coming.
