County buys King Street property for parking lot

Council will put up a parking lot after passing a motion Tuesday night at council, for the County’s purchase of the land at 55 King St., Picton for $300,000 from John Switzer Fuels Ltd.
“A benefit of the purchase is the potential of 50 to 58 parking spots at a location within the downtown core and a short walking distance to Main Street,” said Mayor Robert Quaiff. “The site is a brownfield, ideally suited for passive use as parking under municipal ownership.”
The County first will meet conditions of an environmental assessment then develop a plan for additional parking. County staff recommended more parking lots at meetings this past summer and reports from last year.
