Internet outage impacts County

A major internet outage affected customers throughout the County Tuesday leaving some residents without usual television, home phone and business point of sale systems.
The disruption, reported by a few internet providers, was due to a fibre cable that was cut mid-morning.
The municipality reported 911 emergency phone service was not impacted by the outage.
Service returned in the mid-evening.

Access to 911 emergency phone is impacted for those of us who rely upon internet for phone service. I use VOIP at home. If I have no internet, I have no phone. There is an assumption that everyone has a cell phone or a working home phone. My budget is very lean, and I have combined my phone to use over the internet. I have no cell phone.
