The event is named after the BIG 30-seat BIKE. Teams are made up of 29 riders and one driver/navigator provided by the foundation. On May 1, the Big Bike for Heart and Stroke made its way to the fairgrounds in Picton. Dozens of team participants climbed aboard and pedalled their way through the downtown area.
Countylive.ca arrived at the top of the Town Hill on time to catch The Scotia Bank Riders with Captain Andrew Smith at the helm.
“A vital fundraiser with impressive results, Heart and Stroke Big Bike continues to engage Canadians across the country. Last year, more than 40,000 riders, in over 200 communities, helped raise over $7 million for research! This is helping to achieve even greater results that change the lives of not only heart and stroke patients, but also for all Canadians.
The bike ride itself takes about 15-20 minutes and is about 2km in length. You should arrive 15-30 minutes ahead of your scheduled ride time to hand in your donations and have a team photo before you ride. Your team may plan some post event activities as well.”
