An eagle eye by two Home Hardware delivery drivers who spotted smoke coming from the back of a home may have saved the life of a County resident sleeping inside when fire broke out.
Deputy Fire Chief Robert Rutter said some 30 firefighters from three stations arrived to a fully-engulfed fire at 313 Gilead Road, near Bloomfield at about 3:30 p.m. Thursday.
“Thankfully there we no injuries,” said Rutter. “When we arrived flames were coming through the roof at the rear of the house. It is unfortunate the home was destroyed.”
Investigators remained on the scene Thursday and most of the day Friday. Rutter said the blaze caused some $500,000 in damages and the cause has been listed as undetermined.
