The public education system could be shut down Friday, Feb. 21 if four Ontario teachers’ unions hold a joint province-wide strike.
If there is no breakthrough in contract talks with the provincial government, unions striking would include the Elementary Teachers’ Federation of Ontario, (EFTO); the Ontario Secondary School Teachers’ Federation (OSSTF); the Ontario English Catholic Teachers’ Association (OECTA) and the Association des enseignantes et des enseignants franco-ontariens (AEFO).
The news followed an event in Toronto Wednesday where Education Minister Stephen Lecce was speaking about preparing students for jobs of the future.
Contract negotiations between the government and the unions have stalled with several major issues unresolved.
