Charges laid in armed robbery

Prince Edward OPP have made an arrest in connection to an armed robbery Monday, Oct. 11 at Scott’s Variety Store in Picton.
Kenny James Ruttan, 18, of Picton was arrested Tuesday evening. He is to appear in Picton court Nov. 30 to answer to charges of Robbery and Possession of a Weapon Dangerous to the Public.

Armed robbery attempt at variety store

A male wearing a black balaclava attempted to rob Scott’s Variety Store Monday, but ran from the scene when the owner called 911.

Prince Edward OPP report the suspect entered the 7 Lake St., Picton store at about 11:40 a.m. Monday, Oct. 10. When the owner approached, the suspect he brandished a knife and ordered the owner to give him money. The owner refused to comply with the demand and called 911, prompting the suspect to run out the front door.

The suspect was last observed on foot running eastbound on West Mary Street.  A K9 track was conducted with negative results.

The suspect is described as:
Male, white, approximately 16-19 years old, 5’9 – 5’10″”, slim build, unknown hair/eye colour
Wearing white t-shirt, blue or green shorts (possibly cargo style), unknown footwear
Black wool balaclava
Carrying a green re-usable grocery bag
Young, nervous sounding voice
Clean shaven
