CHEERS! to the Prince Edward County Memorial Hospital Auxiliary for a recent donation of funds to purchase a new transfusion chair for Picton hospital. Constructed with memory foam, the chair provides a comfortable seat for patients who must remain seated for a long time.
Joan Pasila, the Auxiliary’s Director of Community Services and Manager of the Blood Donor Program, reflected on this acquisition and on the Dec.17 blood drive, during which 139 pints of blood which were donated.
A few days later, Joan was working as a volunteer at the hospital and met a patient who was receiving a double transfusion.
The new chair made an enormous difference to the lengthy treatment experience,” said Pasila. “It also really brought home to me the reason we do this service for our community. We are saving and prolonging lives through the Blood Donor Clinics.”
