From Tuesday, Feb. 21 to Wednesday, March 8 the public may notice marching, and the use of blank ammunition and pyrotechnic at Mountain View and Trenton.
Members from 2 Military Police Squadron Trenton, are to be conducting an Aircraft Security Officer Course at 8 Wing/Canadian Forces Base (CFB) Trenton and Canadian Forces Detachment (CFD) Mountain View.
Captain Hrayr Karageozian, 8 Wing Trenton Public Affairs, notes this type of training “is essential for maintaining the security maintenance and management skills for the participants to safely execute Canadian Armed Forces missions around the world, often under challenging conditions. It is important that these proficiencies are maintained in Canada, so our aircrew are prepared to execute these manoeuvres.”
The course will take place at both the main and north gates of 8 Wing/CFB Trenton and at CFD Mountain View.
“During the course there will be scenarios using Sig Sauer pistols and Colt Canada C8 carbine equipped with training magazines and blank-firing attachment (BFO). Blank Ammunition will be used at CFB Trenton and blank and pyrotechnic will be used at CFD Mountain View.”
Members will also conduct some marches twice daily, with their weapons, inside 8 Wing/CFB Trenton, and will be visible from Highway 2 and RCAF Road.
“Members of the 2 Military Police Squadron are well-trained and there is no risk to public safety during this exercise,” states Karageozian. “All efforts will be made to ensure that disruption to the community will be at a minimum. Canadian Armed Forces members adhere to strict rules and regulations at all times to ensure safety.”
