Canada has received an ‘F’ on the 2011 Active Health Kids Report Card for childrens’ physical activity levels.
This year’s report focuses on after-school hours. Canadian children, on average, get just 14 minutes of physical activity during the after-school period from 3-6 p.m.
“Another startling statistic is that the average Canadian child spends 8.6 hours/day in sedentary activities – 6-7 hours/day of that time is in front of a screen,” notes Jennifer Ronan, of the Hastings and Prince Edward Counties Health Unit.
