Briar Boyce photoArmed with buckets and sponges, staff and residents from the Wellings of Picton recently spent a hot summer day volunteering at a fundraising car wash and barbecue.

Their first attempt at a car wash and barbecue was anything but a wash out as they raised $1,295 for the Prince Edward County Memorial Hospital Foundation’s Back the Build campaign.

“The Prince Edward County Memorial Hospital Foundation has enjoyed a healthy partnership with the Wellings of Picton since well before the residence was built. From humble beginnings in the little sales office at the corner of Picton’s Main Street at the top of the town hill, Rachel Henry and the staff at the Wellings of Picton have always included the PECMH Foundation in their fundraising efforts,” said Shannon Coull, executive director of the PECMH Foundation. “The residents and staff of the Wellings of Picton show their generosity and support in many ways, including events like the Making Spirits Bright Holiday Bazaar and now with this car wash.”

Henry says she is proud of her team and thankful to great customers and their overwhelming generosity.

“We are so pleasantly surprised by the turnout and the generosity of the community. I am so grateful to my staff members, Jessica Yarrow, Cathy Kewley and Lynn Colwell whose enthusiasm helped the car wash run smoothly. This event was a big success!”

For PECMHF, nothing beats the joy of belonging to a philanthropic and caring community.

“It’s been a challenging time for many local businesses and the Back the Build team is extremely grateful to the Wellings of Picton and the generous patrons who purchased a car wash. We are another step closer to building our new hospital thanks in part to everyone who contributed to this great event,” said Nancy Parks, Back the Build campaign co-chair.
