Overnight military training is expected to take place on the Millennium Trail Tuesday, Aug. 9, from 1 a. m. until 11 pm.

The Canadian Army Advanced Warfare Centre (CAAWC), CFB Trenton training involves the movement of approximately 50 Pathfinder trainees, carrying rucksacks and rifles, along the western 20 kilometres of the Millennium Trail.

The group is to be escorted by two all-terrain vehicles and a side-by-side for use as patrol and in the event of an emergency.

CAAWC is responsible to have two officers on two hours and two six-member teams on four hours notice to move in support of Major Air Disaster Operations (MAJAID). MAJAID is a joint Air Force/Land Force operation which involves parachuting into an aircraft crash site with survival equipment and supporting the efforts of search and rescue by providing shelter and sustenance to survivors.

The CAAWC is known as the centre of excellence for all parachutist related courses (both static line and military freefall), aerial delivery (including helicopter operations), mountain operations, rappelling, patrol pathfinder and all parachute rigger qualifications. Each training year, the school sees up to 800 students pass through its doors.

CAAWC is also the home of the Canadian Forces Parachute Team, The Sky Hawks.

The Millennium Trail use bylaw establishes permitted hours of use as between 7 a.m. and 11 p.m. Council waived these provisions to allow the training to occur overnight. The training exercise is to adhere to all other provisions in the bylaw.

It is not expected the training will generate much, if any, nuisance noise; however, as a cautionary measure, council also waived provisions of the noise bylaw for the duration of the exercise.
