Change clocks and batteries on ‘Spring Forward’ weekend

Roll your clocks forward one hour at bedtime as Daylight Saving Time begins at 2 a.m. Sunday.

Prince Edward County Deputy Fire Chief Tim Kraemer reminds residents “Spring Forward” weekend is a good time to remember to check, clean and test smoke alarms and carbon monoxide detectors.

He suggests cleaning smoke alarms and carbon monoxide detectors with a vacuum or compressed air; replacing batteries, then testing the units to ensure they’re working.

Smoke alarms and carbon monoxide detectors work every minute of every day. After millions of sensing cycles, they should be retired. Replace your smoke alarms and carbon monoxide detectors with new devices every 10 years.
