Help Christmas Angels make holiday merry for County children

With early-onset of winter, the spirit of Christmas is in the air with the opening of the Prince Edward County Christmas Angel Campaign office.
Support from the school, and the whole community is always amazing, said Susan Rose, who has been the program’s Chief Angel for more than 30 years.
The campaign is gearing up to support as many as 300 children and their families this Christmas.
“It’s a hand up to help out County families in need,” said Rose, noting it would be impossible without the help of many volunteers, the Kinsmen Club and so many supporters of the campaign.
The Kinsmen also provide the campaign’s headquarters inside the Kin Hall, Benson Park building on King Street in Picton.
This year there is a greater need than usual for support for teenaged angels, and for new snowsuits and boots for some who missed the annual OPP drive.
“Sometimes it’s difficult to know what to buy – especially for teens,” said Rose. “So in those cases, money donations are always welcome. We also use money donations to buy turkeys and all the trimmings, and kid-favourite foods.”
Supporters are invited to choose an angel from the tree and purchase Christmas gifts, or make donations of new toys, new clothing, winter boots or money.
Entrepreneurship class elves led by teacher Rob Garden at Prince Edward Collegiate Institute were among the first to arrive at the newly-opened campaign office to speak up for 50 angels.
The campaign is partnered with The Children’s Foundation. Applications to be assisted by the campaign are available at the foundation website and office, the HUB Child and Family Centre, Community Living and at the campaign office. The forms need to be returned by Dec. 13.
