Closures at Brighton Road Swing Bridge

Work at the Brighton Road Swing Bridge on County Road 64 on the Trent-Severn continues. Work, including testing the bridge under various temperature conditions, as well as the completion of some concrete work, will continue until the operating season begins in mid-May.

Beginning April 22 to April 26 expect potential closures of up to four hours, between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m.

From April 29 to May 16 expect intermittent bridge swings. These swings will be shorter in length – resembling swings during the canal operating season – however may be at any time of day. This continued endurance testing is being completed to ensure the bridge’s swing ability under the strain of varied temperatures.

In May or June there will be closure of one lane of traffic as additional curbs and guardrails are added.

The replacement of the Brighton Road Swing Bridge is part of Parks Canada’s $3 billion investment over five years to support infrastructure work to heritage, visitor, waterway and highway assets located within national historic sites, national parks, and national marine conservation areas across Canada.
