A collision involving two vehicles on the south side of the Norris Whitney Bridge had traffic stopped and the bridge closed for approximately two hours Monday morning.
Prince Edward OPP report that at 7:45am a northbound SUV lost control due to icy road conditions, crossed into the southbound lane and struck a car.
The driver of the car was trapped and had to be extricated by fire fighters. The driver of the SUV exited his vehicle on his own but collapsed a short distance away.
Both drivers were transported to Belleville General Hospital where they were treated for their injuries. The driver of the car remains in hospital with a broken leg. The driver of the SUV was released.
No charges will be laid as the investigation revealed the collision was weather related.
Traffic started moving again at 10am after salt/sand trucks treated the bridge’s road surface.View all OPP news at http://www.countylive.ca/?page_id=9734
