Community Care Boutique opens Wednesday downtown Picton

usedclothesThe Community Care for Seniors’ Thrift Shop will continue to satisfy the “I need something to wear” call for shopping in a new location on Main Street in Picton – The Community Care Boutique.

“We’ve turned a challenge into an opportunity,” said Debbie MacDonald Moynes, Executive Director of The Prince Edward County Community Care for Seniors Association.

The agency operates a successful Thrift Shop at 281 Main Street in Picton with housewares and furniture on the main level and the clothing and linen section on the second floor.  With remodeling to be done, the upstairs section is now closed to customers.

“We decided to move our clothing to a temporary location and we looked for a spot on Main Street with no stairs to climb,” said MacDonald Moynes.  The new location, is in Don Mowat’s former office at 165 Main Street, across the street from Subway.  The office walls have been removed leaving the space open for the boutique. Moving day is Monday. The store is to be open for business Wednesday, and an official grand opening is planned for Friday, Nov. 22.

“We can only do this because of our wonderful volunteers who are committed to this effort to raise funds to help seniors live at home,” said MacDonald Moynes.
“Community Care for Seniors relies heavily on the funds generated through its Thrift Shop activities in support of the programs offered by the agency. Through the generosity of individuals who donate the inventory and the enthusiastic and tireless support of volunteers, the operation provides a vital link to helping seniors enjoy their years in a home environment.”

One hundred per cent  of the Thrift Shop funds go to helping seniors,” said Ken Noble, Treasurer for Community Care.

The main floor level at 281 Main Street continues to be open Mondays 1-4pm and Tuesday to Saturday 10am-4pm.
Community Care’s Boutique at 165 Main Street has used clothing for the whole family and is open 10am to 4pm Monday to Saturday.  Donations of clothing and linens will be accepted at this location.  Donations of anything else will be accepted at 281 Main Street.

New volunteers are always welcome.  Call 613-476-7493 if you can give three hours a week to help.

The Prince Edward County Community Care for Seniors Association offers services such as Meals on Wheels, transportation to medical appointments, noon-time dinners for seniors, foot care, help with forms (including Income Tax), respite, home maintenance, rural route reassurance and telephone reassurance programs.  The agency is partly funded by the Ministry of Health & Long-Term Care through the Local Health Integration Network and supported by donations and community fundraising efforts.
