Community Theatre supports community

Pictured above, handing over the dontaion, are: Lynn Fennell, PECT Founder & Director, David Smith (Morrie Schwartz), Mike Zaffino (Mitch Albom) and Loyola principal Theresa Harper-Dube.

During the recent run of the play Tuesdays with Morrie, Prince Edward Community Theatre volunteers also went to work raising funds for community organizations.
“Morrie presented a very true message of ALS and with this in mind, the PECT felt it was important to help ALS Canada in their efforts,” said Jennifer Goodman, co-publicity rep for PECT.
A special preview was for Loyola Adult and Continuing Education students was arranged by teacher and action Mike Zaffino (Mitch) as “Tuesdays with Morrie” is part of their curriculum.

At this and during 50/50 draws over the four-day public run of the show, Prince Edward Community Theatre and its patrons helped raise $848 for ALS.

Prince Edward Community Theatre also ran a small concession for theatre patrons.  Through the sale of snacks, water and coffee and a donation jar, $271.18 was raised for the Picton food bank.

“It had come to our attention that the foodbank is in need of some funds to support our community,” said Goodman. “We decided to take on the food sales at the theatre to help raise some money for community projects. As a community theatre company, our emphasis is on community.  We’ve received so much help from local organizations that it’s essential we in turn try to help out organizations in need.  We greatly thank our patrons for their support in our efforts.”

What’s next for Prince Edward Community Theatre?
“Moon over Buffalo” will take the stage at Mt Tabor Playhouse Feb 9, 10, 16 and 17, 2013.  PECT has entered “Buffalo” in the Eastern Ontario Drama League festival.  The cast is already hard at work to bring this production to life.
