Cops help kids cast lines at Bloomfield

More than 100 children cast their lines into the Bloomfield Mill Pond Saturday as part of the annual Kids and Cops Fishing Derby.
A grain sack and various plant life were caught, along with some pike.
Carter, of Ameliasburgh, caught his very first fish – a pike measuring about 20″ and another at 19.25″.
The event is hosted annually by the Bloomfield Hallowell Recreation and feature prizes for the longest and shortest fish, as well as for the most fish caught and the strangest catch.
Councillor Barry Turpin said sponsors include Fishing Forever, a not-for-profit organization dedicated to funding worthwhile fishing, conservation and education projects, the Police Association of Ontario, Canadian Tire the Canadian National Sportsmen’s Shows and Prince Edward County OPP.
Bob Izumi, well-known fishing personality and chair of Fishing Forever, is an avid supporter of recreational fishing, noting: “Fishing is one of the best ways for parents and other adults to establish productive and healthy relationships with children and promote conservation.”
