Council to receive updates on solar plant and solar farm proposal

Progress of the Solar Science company at Picton’s Industrial Park and details of the proposal for the Demorestville Solar Farm are on Prince Edward County council’s committee of the whole agenda today.
*   Scott Phipps, president and CEO of Clean Development Group Inc making a deputation regarding the Solar Science Inc development in the Picton Industrial Park.
Solar Science is in the final phase of preparations to manufacture solar photovoltaic modules, mounting and tracking systems and auxiliary equipment using state-of-the-art semi-automatic equipment in the Picton Plant.
Phipps states the market for photovoltaic (PV) modules is growing by 20 per cent per year worldwide and that the company has the experience necessary to make Canada a global leader in the PV world.
In year one at Picton, the company plans to have seven administration positions, three forepersons and 10 assembly workers per shift, plus shipper/drivers.
In explaining solar power, the presentation states “The sun provides enough energy every 45 minutes to power everything on earth for an entire year – including the transportation sector. It just needs to be appropriately harvested.”

* Rob Miller, director of development SunEdison will also address council about a proposed 10-MW solar project in Demorestville. The proposal for a Demorestville Solar Farm uses 90 acres of a 400 acre site on the north side of Black Road near the intersection with Doxee Road.
The farm would feature 45,000 solar panels, 20 inverters, one 44-kV substation and possibly a communications tower, if required by Hydro One.
Two public open houses have been held. A final public session is set for Tuesday, Nov. 22 at the Sophiasburgh Town Hall from 5:30-8 p.m.

* Council will also receive a report from Public Works recommending the contract for the demolition of the Picton Waste Water Treatment Plant be warded to Maple Reinders Constructors at a price of $453,720.

* Council will receive a report from Public Works to initiate action for replacement of the major culvert crossing County Road 3 and that council authorize the closure of the road for a maximum of two days.

    No, the demolition refers to what’s left of the old plant.

    I hope thats thats not referring to the new one they have just built – hope council clarify in the contract !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
