County collaborates to help support small businesses

Prince Edward County’s Community Development Department is partnering with the Ontario Ministry of Economic Development and Innovation and the city of Belleville to improve access locally to services available through the Small Business Centre.
The Small Business Centre  helps entrepreneurs and small businesses in Belleville, Quinte West, and Hastings and Prince Edward counties start and grow their business. It’s part of a network of 57 Small Business Enterprise Centres across the pProvince and is funded by the ministry in partnership with local municipalities.
The PEC Chamber of Tourism and Commerce recently estimated that approximately 2,500 small businesses are operating in PEC. To increase services available to local small businesses, the County’s Sandy Abbott will provide free business counselling services one day per week in the
County. Abbott will offer services such as:
• business planning and business plan development
• training, seminars and information sessions
• business information, market research and funding resources
• regulatory guidance on taxes, permits and licensing
• business structure options and registration
• internet and computer access
• mentoring and networking opportunities
With a wealth of knowledge and experience, Sandy will help small businesses in The County start, grow and succeed.
“In light of the tremendous impact small businesses have on our economy, and the support they may need to assist in their attraction, retention, and expansion, it is important for the range of services
provided by the SBC to be more readily available in the County,” said Mayor Peter Mertens. “This regional partnership demonstrates successful collaboration between Prince Edward County, the City of Belleville and the Province of Ontario.”
While business services at the SBC office in Belleville are available Monday to Friday, Abbott will be available to meet with businesses in the County every Tuesday. To schedule a consultation with
Sandy, call 613-476-4240 or toll free 1-877-722-2238, or email
