Rain, snow and spring-like temperatures puts Prince Edward County in an all-weather mix and is expected to be hardest hit in a major wind storm brewing for Sunday.
Damaging westerly winds with frequent gusts of 90 to 110 km/h are expected to develop Sunday morning. The temperature high is set for 8C and there is also some rain forecast, turning later into a smattering of snow blowing in the wind.
Environment Canada states areas near the Great Lakes are more likely to experience winds at the higher end of this range. A few gusts may reach 120 km/h near the east end of Lake Erie and over Prince Edward County near Lake Ontario.
In addition, flurries and blowing snow are expected later Sunday making travel hazardous. Any fresh snow that falls will be whipped up by the strong winds creating blowing snow and whiteout conditions at times. Local snowfall amounts in the 2 to 5 cm range are possible by Monday morning.
The strong winds are to persist through Sunday night and gradually diminish Monday. Lake swells, damage to buildings, such as to roof shingles and windows, may occur. Power outages are also possible.
