A Prince Edward County entrepreneur was among two women-led businesses selected as eligible recipients of an investment of up to $100,000 through a new Women Entrepreneurship fun.
Bay of Quinte MP Neil Ellis made the announcement on International Women’s Day – at the County’s Clearwater Design Canoes and Kayaks, owned and operated by Michelle Laframboise and at Pasta Tavola, a Belleville business led by Victoria and Paula Watts.
The funds are part of a Government of Canada $20 million investment to double the amount of women-owned businesses by 2025. The funds are to be used to enhance and grow their businesses and help them reach new markets.
Final funding is subject to negotiation of contribution agreements.
“The Government of Canada is advancing women’s economic empowerment with the first ever Women Entrepreneurship Strategy,” said Ellis. “Our entrepreneurs and business leaders in the Bay of Quinte make incredible contributions to our economy and community every day.”
Friday, on International Women’s Day, Ellis highlighted the two local women-led businesses.
“I hope everyone can take the time to recognize the women in our workplaces and in our lives today, and everyday.”
Ellis noted the The Women Entrepreneurship Strategy compliments the government’s efforts to advance gender equality, which include addressing pay equity, providing more affordable childcare and putting an end to gender-based violence.
