County extends COVID relief on penalties, interest on water bills

The municipality has extended the suspension of penalties and interest on water and wastewater bills through to Feb. 28, 2021.

The municipality has not charged penalties and interest on water and wastewater bills since March 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The municipality has not disconnected water and wastewater users for non-payment during that time as well.

The County is not deferring water and wastewater bills in order to ensure the municipality has the financial means to operate the systems. However, those with difficulties paying utilities bills in full, are asked to contact the municipality to make a payment arrangement. Call 613.476.2148 extension 1523 from 9 am – 5 pm, Monday to Friday.

Earlier this year, the County deferred the property tax due dates to help ease the impact of COVID-19. The tax instalment due dates of June 15 and Sept. 15 were deferred to Sept. 15 and Nov. 16, respectively. Tax bill notices were mailed out in July.

“We introduced these temporary measures to help residents and businesses negatively impacted by COVID-19,” Mayor Steve Ferguson said. “With some in our community still experiencing financial hardship, Council will discuss during 2021 budget deliberations in December what measures the municipality should take to best support the community.”
