County firefighter named new Deputy Chief

Tim Kraemer says he will miss jumping on board fire trucks to respond to calls, but he’s excited for the challenge of becoming the County’s new Deputy Fire Chief.

Kraemer replaces former deputy fire chief Robert Rutter, who became fire chief earlier this year following the retirement of Scott Manlow.

Operating fire trucks was a natural fit for Kraemer who was a diesel truck and coach mechanic for 17 years prior to becoming a career firefighter.

“It truly is an unexpectedly rewarding career,” said Kraemer. “I’ve met a lot of amazing people with incredible talents over the last 11 years. Everyone in the fire service has a special skill, or idea, that they are willing to share for the common good. “It doesn’t matter if you are young or old, new or experienced, when it comes to being a firefighter. If you are willing to listen, learn and work, you will find satisfaction in so many ways while serving your community.”

Kraemer signed up as a volunteer firefighter at Station 5 in Rossmore in 2009.

“I was inspired by former neighbour and County volunteer firefighter Steve Dawson who was working on a structure fire in Rednersville. I applied, and served as a volunteer firefighter for four years at Station 5 (Rossmore).

He then became employed with the county of Prince Edward as a career firefighter in 2013.

He says he’s thankful for the love, sacrifice and support of his wife Michele, and daughters Emily and Ella, and the encouragement he receives from his father Chris Kraemer.

“I’m grateful too, for all the people whom I’ve met, trained and worked with in the fire service over the last 11 years and especially thankful for those that invested the time in my development and believed in me,” he said. “I am passionate about continued education, public awareness of fire safety and life safety equipment.”

Kraemer officially takes on his duties as Deputy Chief on Sept. 14.

“I look forward to serving the residents and visitors of Prince Edward County in my new role, and most of all, look forward to supporting the amazing team of men and women of Prince Edward County Fire and Rescue who are committed to protecting the people and property of Prince Edward County.

“It’s kind of cliche, but my favourite part about being a firefighter has been helping people, and problem-solving. Every day has a new challenge that requires a unique solution,” he said, adding “You won’t find anyone in the fire service who doesn’t share the same desire.”
