County GIS map an easy guide to parks and recreation

parks-and-rec-mapThe County has launched its new ‘Parks and Recreation Finder’ map – a free guide for park goers and recreational enthusiasts – on the County website.

It gives users access to more than 50 local parks and County-specific recreational facilities with detailed information, amenities, hours of operation and directions.
The Parks and Recreation Finder is available on the Prince Edward County Maps webpage, at: http://maps.pecounty.on.ca Also located on the same link is a public map viewer of the County.

Developed by Geographic Information System (GIS) staff in the County of Prince Edward IT Department, the new Parks and Recreation Finder was built in-house.

This tool is expected to evolve as usage increases and feedback from the public is collected.

“Prince Edward County has so much to offer in terms of parks and recreational facilities,”says Mayor Peter Mertens. “This new Parks and Recreation Finder makes it simple for residents and visitors to plan their visits and activities.”

As part of a longer-term strategy, the municipality is exploring the possibility of collaborating with local destination marketing organization, Taste the County. The collaboration is intended to eventually lead to more robust tools with mobile capabilities, and would also extend beyond parks and recreation. The partnership would bring together the County’s extensive GIS and mapping data with Taste the County’s broad database of local businesses and organizations connected to the agricultural, hospitality, food and wine, arts and culture and heritage sectors.

More information will be provided as the collaboration comes together.

GIS staff are asking users to provide feedback on their overall experience using
the Parks and Recreation Finder, or any of the interactive web mapping applications.
Comments can be sent by e-mail to gis@pecounty.on.ca or by calling 613.476.2148 x350.
The Parks and Recreation Finder will be updated as feedback is received.
