County invites public to help shape new official plan

The County of Prince Edward is reviewing its 1993 Official Plan (OP) and invites the public to share  ideas of how the municipality should grow and develop over the next 20 years.

The official plan sets out policies that guide all land use decisions in the County, as well as their social, economic and environmental impacts.
“This exercise is tremendously important to our County’s future,” said Mayor Peter Mertens. “Please help us build an Official Plan to guide decisions related to such things as affordable housing, protection of farm land, main street design, economic development, natural and cultural heritage conservation, community facilities for a changing population and much more.”
The review of the OP is starting with informal meetings that include Planning staff, stakeholders and interest groups. Everyone is encouraged to get involved. Here are some of the ways to participate:
• complete our survey on-line or at the Planning office;
• attend an upcoming open house;
• attend a stakeholder meeting as a member of a special interest group;
• submit written comments on an area(s) of interest or concern;
• meet with County staff; and/or
• ask to be included on our mailing list for upcoming meetings/reports.
The progress of the Official Plan Review (OPR) project can be followed on the County web site at www.pecounty.on.ca.
Bernard Shalka is the contact for inquiries regarding the Official Plan Review process. He can be reached by telephone at 613.476.2148, x351 or by e-mail at bshalka@pecounty.on.ca.
