Your lawn might still be covered in snow, and you may be tired of checking the school bus website for cancellations every day (like I am), but I am certain that despite all signs to the contrary, spring is on its way.
At the County of Prince Edward Public Library, we are busily preparing for a packed week of fun during Spring Break. Each year, we look forward to the library being abuzz with families excited to spend time together at the library and all are welcome.
The fun all starts on Tuesday, March 17 at the Bloomfield Branch Library. Illustrator Clayton Hanmer will join us for a Comics Creation Workshop. Best for ages 6-12, the workshop invites young creatives to write and illustrate their own personal comic stories. Learn about the basic structure of comic creation and be encouraged to get silly while building a comic together with the group. Clayton joined us at the Picton Branch Library for the launch of his latest book, The Gland Factory: A Tour of Your Body’s Goops, Juices and Hormones, an event that was such a success that we were keen to schedule him in again. Register at peclibrary.org or by calling (613) 393-3400.
On Wednesday, March 18 at 2 p.m., get ready to sing, dance, jump, and learn as the Livi & Friends Live Show comes to Picton Branch Library for their “Hello Friend Tour!”
Children will enjoy singing and dancing along to Livi’s favourite educational songs. Join us as we get ready to have a fun and interactive time with Livi & Friends. This performance is free to attend – reserve your spot at peclibrary.org or take your chances dropping in.
Throughout the week at the Milford Branch, drop in during open hours for animal activities. They’ll have something for everyone, including a special workshop with the South Shore Joint Initiative on Thursday, March 19 at 10:30 a.m. where participants will have the opportunity to create a bluebird nesting box while learning more about local nesting birds.
On Saturday, March 21, Corina Brdar will lead an intergenerational nature journaling workshop for all ages at 1 p.m. Part of our Seniors Program Grant series, this workshop promises to help you develop a practice for connecting with nature and a way to foster curiosity, be still, and experience wonder.
Of course, our regular storytime programs – Thursday, Friday and Saturday at 10:30 a.m. at the Picton Branch and Saturday at the Wellington Branch – will continue through Spring Break.
You can also drop into any branch of the library and explore toys, books, and computers for children and play in the active play room at the Picton Branch. Be sure to keep an eye on the library website as more programs, including more opportunities to build bluebird nesting boxes with South Shore Joint Initiative, will be announced.
