Schools closing, County issues warnings, cancellations

UPDATE:

Due to snow accumulation, white outs and freezing drizzle, the County of Prince Edward has issued issued cancellations and notifications.

Visibility and driving conditions on local roadways are poor and travel conditions are expected to deteriorate and become hazardous.

The County warns there may be significant delays in snow clearing due to the amount of snow accumulation and poor visibility.

Mayor Robert Quaiff said snow plows were on the roads at 5am and by 7am all snow equipment had been deployed.

“The snow is coming down at a rate that we are having difficulty keeping up and the very poor visibilty makes it much slower,” said Quaiff. “Please be patien – we’ll get there!”

Drivers are reminded to drive according to weather conditions and are being asked to stay off the roads unless travel is necessary or until visibility and weather conditions improve.

The County has been advised that garbage collection scheduled for Tuesday, Feb. 16 for Sophiasburgh and Hallowell Wards has been cancelled and
re-scheduled to Saturday, Feb. 20.

The Public Consultation Session scheduled for tonight at Massassauga-Rednersville Public School regarding the County Road 3 Reconstruction
Project has been cancelled.

FEB 16 – Due to increasingly poor weather and road conditions, Hastings and Prince Edward District School Board is dismissing students early.

Parents are being called to pick-up their children as soon as safely possible. School staff will remain at schools until all students are picked up.

This decision has been made in consultation with Algonquin & Lakeshore Catholic District School Board and Limestone District School Board. Parents are being called to pick-up their children as soon as safely possible.

Community use of schools (rentals) have been cancelled for the rest of today.
